About this Canadian case, I truly believe there are some dark force from Thai's authority involved. Let me give example, a long time ago(perhaps 30 or so years ago) I learned of a German who involve in shaddy or gray business in Thailand. His gray business was well hidden and most of the Thai or foriegn were not aware of it. Anyway, he came to light when the Thai authority doing a skake down on him. Basically there damand payment from all those grey businesses he had. Well, cut the story shot, he truly believe on his well hidden gray businesses and no law in Thailand can get him. The problem is, the Thai authoriy is the law, they can cook up all kind of charged against him. In the end he lost everything(money and businesses, many of which were legit), and got deported as an undesirable person.

There were many similar cases. As long as there is some grey in the businesses and the Thai authority knows about it, they will demand payment. If refused, they will destroy you. The best way for those crimimals(especially the foriegn one) is to establish some relationship with the poice(a good start). Then work their way up to the politician(the one with real power who can replace the police if he wanted to). Establish relationship you will get a vip treatment. Meaning, if other agency smell something wrong with your businesses, the authority that you paid for will alarm you and let you be more careful. Sometime they even help with your cass bringing a lot lower charge for you. This depend on how deep your relationship with them are(meaning how much you gave them every month). Hell, there wass a case where to police help the criminal escape before the police raid commence. And if you know politician, you will get a super vip treatment. Almost immune to any commone charge(almost meaning if you don't kill someone or don't kill someone important).

After establish a good relationship with the Thai authority, the nest step is to be as low key as posible. Don't get into any news, it will make it a lot harder for the authority to help you. Just quietly make money from grey businesses and enjoy llife while maintaining a heathy relationship with those Thai authority(pay them every month, do them favor sometime too like buying espenaive gifts). Doing all this, almost guaranteed you will last a very long time in Thailand doing grey businesses stuff. Even dark businesses can be almost immune to all charges following this same routine. Connections, bribed are common in Thailand. Surely you can't go to the politician and start bribing right away. Have to work in the connections step by step. Start from local police(perhaps LT rink and work your way up to commander of the local police station, and work further and further up from there). That is how the real successful grey or dark business people operated in Thailand. Till this day.
