Step away from the shopping streets and tour the wilder parts of the island by booking shore excursions. The most popular excursions are water-based activities like snorkeling, scuba diving and exploring underwater reefs.
Some popular tours include visiting Chankanaab National Park, private Jeep tours, ATV adventures, culinary classes, ziplining and tours of the whole island.
At Chankanaab Adventure Beach Park, guests can swim with dolphins or watch gentle manatees and sea lions as they swim about their habitats. Coral reefs abound and The Adventure Beach Park has underwater art installations. Those who are scuba diving can explore submerged sculptures.
Speaking of scuba diving, there are more locations in Cozumel to explore the underwater world, like Palancar Reef and Santa Rosa Wall.
Palancar Reef is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the second-largest coral reef system in the world. Beginners can dive in the shallow coral gardens, while more advanced divers have deeper dives, underwater canyons and tunnels to investigate.
Santa Rosa Wall is a drop-off with a depth of 50 to 120 feet located on the southwest part of the island, offering up a myriad of below-the-surface natural marvels.
