What a pity! Havana was a cosmopolitan city back then.

Absolutely beautiful! Wonderful to watch this. I wish there was a contemporary video following the same route to see what's changed and what is still the same. I have always yearned to visit this city and perhaps I still can, but I'm a little too old and broken down to do the kind of exploration that I would like to do.

When i was in Havana in 2007, it looked exactly the same. Same cars, too!

Cuba has the most American cars predating 1950 still on the road.

Was that young Fidel sitting with his mommy on the wall at 3:00? (joke)

Interesting to see the docks where ships onload coal such as a 2:48. I suspect the coal was used for generating electricity and fueling the steam locomotives pulling passenger and freight trains at this time.

Little did the 1940's Cuban know about the evil on the horizon.

Eighty years ago! Maybe a kid or two in the video is still alive. Sadly, they had to endure the Castros. I was there in 2018 and rode down the Malecon in a 1954 Dodge Royal convertible. Who knows what was under the hood. Also visited the fortified Castle of the Three Kings of Morro on the other side of the strait. Many old cars are still running. Havana is a photographer's dream with 60-70 year-old faded paint.

I'd live in Habana during WWII just to stay away from the death and destruction happening and enjoy a peace and serenity.

Looks like a Mediterranean holiday destination….back then.

The colors on the Cuban flag in the castle are wrong. That’s Puerto Rico’s flag. 😮

Back when it was a Republic. Great video. Before the tunnel was built. When Cubans didn’t immigrate actually and Americans moved to Cuba 😉.
Our foreign policy and lack of world leadership caused and causes the destruction of our Latin American neighbors. This is why we can’t be isolationist. We are the leaders of the free world and should act that way. Castro should have been overthrown April of 1961 or even before, Eisenhower did nothing from 1959 to 1960 and everybody knows what happened at the Bay of Pigs in 1961 😞.

Cuando los cubanos eran felices, tenian sueños y podian lograrlos !! Hoy todo destruido, por un regimen y un emperador elegido por nadie, ,y que no necesitaban ser elegidos por el pueblo. Por Cuba Libre !
