SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – The Caribbean Carnival Celebration kicked off at 12 p.m. on Saturday for the 24th consecutive year.

The Caribbean American African Association Social Club hosted the free event, filled with remarks from local leaders, authentic Caribbean cuisine, steel pan music, and a special sneak peek of this year’s carnival costumes.

“This is something that keeps us grounded to our Caribbean roots. Carnival is something that is celebrated throughout the Caribbean every year, and the excitement behind it is something that we try to recreate up here in the United States,” the club’s president, Curt Marcellin told us.

Costume designs and masks are on display to celebrate Caribbean culture from Saturday through Monday, so be sure to check out this colorful event while it’s around.
