The 11th annual Clermont Caribbean Jerk Festival, a vibrant celebration of Caribbean culture, took place on Saturday, June 1, at Clermont’s Waterfront Park. Organized by the Caribbean American Association of Lake County (CAALC), this free, family-friendly event brought together the community for a day of culinary delights, lively music, and cultural festivities.
Attendees were treated to an array of mouth-watering Caribbean cuisine, from spicy jerk-style chicken and pork to savory roti and curry dishes. Tropical drinks and island-inspired treats were also in abundance, providing a true taste of the Caribbean.
Music played a central role in the festival, with the sounds of reggae, calypso, chutney, salsa, and merengue filling the air, creating an atmosphere of joy and relaxation. The rhythmic beats of the islands kept everyone dancing, while the enchanting steel drums of the Lake Steel Orchestra provided a melodic backdrop.
In addition to the musical performances, the festival offered a variety of engaging activities for all ages. For the younger attendees, a petting zoo and a kid’s zone provided endless entertainment.
THE TASTE OF THE CARIBBEAN
The CAALC, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The organization is dedicated to supporting Lake County students through scholarships and funding the Lake Steel Orchestra. The festival not only served as a celebration of Caribbean culture but also as a fundraiser to support these important initiatives.
