Our economy in Grenada relies heavily on tourism. Being small we are very vulnerable to negative publicity. These two cruisers have done huge damage to our image when they could have done so much to help us. How about saying how grateful they are that the hurricane was well north of their location, that they had a safe haven for their yacht, that there is food and supplies readily available, that the locals are friendly and helpful to all tourists even self centered cruisers.

2004 Hurricane Ivan hit Grenada while I was there. 98% of the housing was destroyed and it took the country 4-5 years to repair its infrastructure. I pray for everyone on that island.

That hurricane hole is badass. Probably not any stormsurge there either. And enough heavy vegetation to prevent mudslides. Love it.

Full time cruisers?? So not working? Must get the money from YouTube views. I am always curious what people like them will do for retirement money

They got Lucky. 62 knots peak is mild. They would be in trouble if they got the full 160 knots

Come interview the boat owners that were stuck in Carriacou. Our insurance is telling us we are not covered because we were on the hard instead of running.

Sunday Beryl was strengthening and only 30-40nm from Grenada. I wonder why they did not make the decision to move to Trinidad like many others. I don’t believe Grenada is really outside the hurricane belt and some of us still recall the effects of Hurricane Ivan on Grenada.

Just look at all the videos on YouTube on Carriacou, Union Island, Mayreau, Petite Martinique and so many others devastated

Sorry folks. Staying with a boat when a hurricane comes in is just stupid. Is your boat worth your life? Because that is what you’re gambling with. As a child in the South, I experienced three hurricanes living ashore in a house. I also went through a “weak” Cat 1 in the South Pacific. Once the wind goes over about 80, there is nothing you can do on a boat to change anything that goes wrong. You can barely breathe outside because there is so much water flying by horizontally. Rain is painful. Stress on anchor lines and chain is so strong, you’re not going to be able to move it. You’re only going to ride along on the boat. The boat’s fate is your fate.
