It actually made me so nervous seeing you guys holding your camera out in the open, or leaving it on some surface while you guys sat in font of it a couple steps away 😅 Those people were warning you about the most common way things get stolen from tourists and other pederestians: it's called "lanzazo" (could be roughly translated to "quick throw"?) and it happens when a thief runs past you and snatches from your hands whatever valuable thing you're holding (usually phones or purses, cameras too) and it happens so quickly that they're able to disappear into the crowd before you can even react. Still, I'm glad you guys didn't have any trouble and enjoyed visiting around here!

Pedro de Valdivia was a conqueror and the founder of Santiago. The "freedom" from Spain came 300 years later.

I'm super surprised and impressed that no one stole your camera, it made me a little anxious when you left it alone to film both of you.

Good thing you guys were able to actually tour what is known as the real downtown Santiago (and that you didn't suffer or see anything dangerous haha). I imagine that many tourists prefer to go to other places in Santiago further east which are usually safer. I hope you had a good time 🙂

So funny that so many chileans express so much hatred towards black/brown skinned people. I think someone needs to give them a mirror as a birthday present. And don't be fooled by their comments regarding people from Venezuela or Colombia. Some racist behaviour is part of the chilean culture, they always look for an excuse to show hatred and resentment towards brown people, it doesn't matter if they're migrants or locals. For example, if they're locals, then they say that the person looks "indigenous" hence treat them like inferior people, and if they're not indigenous, then it's because they have to be poor and when no excuse apply, they just say that brown/dark people are ugly and thats it. But as you would've guessed, a lot of it is nothing more than self-hatred towards their own cultural heritage, where they show excessive pride in the european heritage but try super hard to distance themselves away from the Latinoamerican heritage. This is something that has diminished across the years but it is something still prevalent in chilean culture, I mean some born-and-raised chileans back in the day would be discriminated at their workplace just because they live in a poor area or because their skin is brown.

The Chilean flag is 26 years older than the Texas flag. A rumor said that the Chilean wife of a Texas governor, prior to the election of his flag, was influenced by her to invent that particular flag. just a legend!!

Plaza de Armas is usually very busy because there is literally everything just a few minutes away, people leaving their offices to eat somewhere nearby, families going out with their children after school, even many mandatory procedures have to be done there… I live near the Cordillera de los Andes but I always ended up going to the center for different reasons hahaha

Anyway, glad you enjoyed the city! These types of videos bring back many memories of my childhood, and seeing people from outside enjoying different things that we have makes my heart fill with joy<3

I always get a bit annoyed by the fact people visit Santiago and not go to the Andes, 2 hours from Santiago you can have amazing sights of glaciers and glaciated 5000 to 6000m (19,000ft) peaks, you can even walk on some with a guide and be back in the city for dinner. It's very different compared to the southern part of Chile, while it is dryer, mountains are also twice as tall and it gives some 'Himalayan' vibe to the landscape, especially during winter and spring the views are STUNNING. The historic center is fine, but cities like Arequipa, Cusco or Buenos Aires have made a better work preserving their patrimonial buildings, architecture and some places are worth visiting ofc, but are not the highlight of the city, the highlight are the Andes imo.

02:19. The organ was playing because there was a Mass ongoing, or another religious service.
