Ahh, Dominican Republic.
We had a two week stay this past March at Coral Costa Caribe, located in Juan Dolio.
Even at this smaller resort the licensed vendors were unrelenting every day on the beachfront, to the point one guest bought an old coconut and paid the vendor $20 US to leave her alone for the rest of her stay.
On our last day, we were early in the lobby waiting for our bus transfer to Punta Cana airport.
When the AirTransat bus arrived, the driver claimed we were not on his list, citing an oversight by our travel agent, even though these bus transfers are included with the package.
He asked us for $100 USD to board the bus.
The hotel doorman was indifferent to our plight and suggested we take a cab or pay the extortion fee.
We had tipped out most of our USD funds and only had $70 USD left and surprise, surprise the bus driver took it and allowed us to board.
He even circled back to cover up his story, which was "we were not in the lobby to be picked up on time".
I agree with you, certain folks are fishing for easy opportunities to take advantage of people in a tight spot.
Back to Cuba for us this year, we had two weeks @ Iberostar Selection Varadero in the Suite, perfect and no hassles in December, 2024.
Returning to Iberostar Ensenachos Coral, Cuba in March, 2025 for another two weeks.
Dominican Republic can wait. -

Nice resort and video. It’s unfortunate about the check-in process. Did you report this to management?
