I'm American Thai and it is sad how the USA develops so much slower than SE Asia. I was on a train in Dallas recently, and for most of the passengers, it was their first time. This is due to a lack of modern infrastructure here, and no sign of improving.

yes we are still 3rd world ; except Bangkok

Yes 3rd sometimes 4th world. Thai ppl are corrupt materialize and crooked. Trust me we are 4th worls country

Only Bangkok is developed. The rest is worse than third world country.

No it isnt. Its a 4th world country. You see many old white dudes from the West come to Thailand and become the alpha males with lots of Thai people putting them on pedestals 😂

I don't think 1st, 2nd or 3rd world countries have any meaning in this day and age.

Who decides? Who has direct responsibility? to update these numbers

In reality, the division of countries into First World, Second World, and Third World is a division that has its roots in the Cold War era (1947 to 1991).

These words are now out of date.

I'm Thai. I used to be upset easily when Westerners thought of Thailand as an underdeveloped country. I'm in the US for school. One of my professors asked me if we used elephants as our transportation. I could not believe people still asked this kind of question. However, I got to the point I feel good letting Americans believe Thailand is the 3rd world country while the US itself is going down hill. I was in the US from 2006 to 2015 and it was a much better country back then.

I’m Canadian and I live in Toronto. The transit system is very outdated. Comparing to Thailand, it’s like Canada is living in the past. There are only 3 subway lines (initially 4 but 1 was permanently closed) and yet the train is out of service ALL THE TIME. The train is dirty and full of homeless. I don’t feel safe at all when I’m on the train but I have no choice but to suffer. Believe or not we had no phone reception on a subway for who knows how long. You basically got cut off from the outside world and just recently we finally are able to get the phone and internet connection on the train but only if when you’re at the station or only when the train is above ground. Freaking ridiculous. Stone age. Monopoly plays a really big part in Canadian society. Trudeau has got to go! I actually feel like I’m living in a 3rd world country. It’s time for Canada to wake up and catch up with the rest of the world!

Sorry I don’t normally comment on the internet and thank you for listening to my rants.

I would say Thailand is a second world country 😂. The Philippines is the third world nation.

Nope. Noone in this world can stand UP over the RULES and TREND by your 4legs. We all became slaves from time to time. Significantly, since black Olala to white Bipolar today — ALL slaves are under 4legs GOOD. Thailand is under American's PETs:- red DOTs++ like Taiwan, Filipino, Ukraine ++ It's a slavery RULE from your FEET centers. I met an American moving to here since the first of Obama, he might get it that your COVID could come here and we are still dying from its complications, no MONEY and no MAN at all

No, you are correct, skid row is a good representation of LA and all metro US cities

Im thai ive been in the US and europe several times for work and education. Bangkok is aiming to be one of the top tier city in the world. However, rural Thai area need to be developed. Most of adequate infrastructure are mainly in Bangkok. It does not like USA where you have LA, Chicago, New york or in Japan that you have Tokyo and Osaka. And the main problem in Thailand except corruption is our country rely way too much on tourism. It may be a dependable business, but we really need innovation to raise up our minimum salary.

As a Thai person, I think that Thailand is a developed country so far. For the following reasons:

1.) More than 30 years ago, I went to Europe. We accept that Thailand is an undeveloped country. Because European people say Thailand has a small airport. There is no electric train network. There are a lot of poor people who are starving. Doing agriculture using human labors.
2.) Currently, Thailand has Modern electric trains covering all areas of Bangkok. There is a big airports, there are 20 airports in nationwide in Thailand. Easy travel with 4-8 lane roads connecting every province. No Thai people go hungry. Thailand produces so many food products that there is surplus to sell abroad. Thai people do agriculture with machines and technology.
3.) Income of Thai people, on average, has income in baht currency that can be used to buy food for every meal. It is enough to use for living. Can be used to take care of everyone's health. The cost of living Thais is not high. So that Thailand is a developed country . Is it True?

P.S. To taking Thai people's income in baht and converting it to dollars and then you saying that Thai people are poor and have low incomes is a very very wrong logic. This type of wrong way of thinking logic should be completely removed from this world economics.

I think you cannot just by objects such as buildings, skyscrapers. It does not tell anything. Bureaucracy , politic and justice process. This one is a thing to tell a country is a developed country or an undeveloped country.

It's not a 3rd world country, it's a developing one, but it needs to clean up the thousands of tangled up street cables.

Hi Cal. I agreed most of what you said. About Trudeau, he was rich punk who like to come to BC especially at Whistler to enjoy ganja with another rich friends & winter athletic. From a rich puck became a head of Canada. What's joke( sorry it's only my personal opinion).

You biggest mistake is that you listen to BBC.

In fact even people from china, Taiwan, Hong Kong, south Korea, Japan and Singapore will have the assumption that south east Asia countries are poor, less educated and dirty. It's not only Westerners perceptions, it's more about developed nations supremacy mindset that shape this mindset

Thais have nothing of special. They're not different from other awkward Asians , they force themselves to help others , they refuse to learn English even if their country is touristy, and they badmouth others . Even ppl in my country mind their business instead of assuming things. Interacting with them is ridiculously complicated. You feel you'il waste your time.
