I grew up thinking that "Ticket to Ride" was a Carpenters song due to my parents' affinity for that duo. I might still prefer the cover.

Ticket to Ride came out the same day I was born.

Well, John was a comedian so I think he was joking when he said "Ticket to ride " was about German prostitutes. Why then would he be sad that she was going away?

Did he go into much detail about German prostitutes??

I don't understand why the title of your video calls the song a "happy sing-along" when it's a very sad song. It's possible my favorite Beatles song, too. Norwegian Wood is another favorite of mine.

I've had a look at the picks in your poll and in my opinion there is one song that is vastly underrated. This song sounds so simple, so easy to sing and play that "anybody" could have made it, but it packs an emotional wallop way beyond its simplicity. It hit me then and it hits me now – it hasn't aged. I am of course talking about "Yesterday".

    Who is Taylor Swift?

I'm probably in the minority, but I just never cared for anything by The Beatles. I just find their stuff annoying.

@professorofrock, I see that Mr. Mister album behind you. Have you done anything on them? If not, can you? There's a lot of history there.

To me Rubber Soul was the turning point in their musical career. There will never be another innovative band like The Beatles. ❤

Taylor Swift? Compared to the BEATLES????? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard

I remember seeing this movie around the time John Lennon died as British TV was doing tributes to him, and that was also the first time I heard "Ticket to Ride". Now you mention what John Lennon said inspired it, I guess that makes sense! The Carpenters cover changed the mood of it completely as only they could.

This doc ignores the history of Clarence Walker, the fifth Beatle, who got kicked out of the band and was a major contributor to the song when it was originally known as "SHE GOT A TICKET TO RIDE AND THE BITCH DON'T CARE".

Yes the Ed Sullivan appearance was a cultural experience.
It changed my hair do from a princeton haircut to the Beatle hair cut. 😅

I would be very interested in seeing a video on the differences between the U.S. and U.K. Beatles albums. In fact it might be a good segment to do with other famous artists and bands as well!

The book THE LOVE YOU MAKE mentioned the boys were once treated for their Hamburg days stds under Epstein who also put them in Cardin suits and Man coffuires.
They were put on speed to perform jumpy and drank draughts of beer to come down.
Lennon post beatles breakup later once even admitted to groupies use as the writer said was the case .

Lennon gave up drugs while trying to have a child with Yoko per a US doctor's firm
    advice . Sean's birth resulted
Interestingly he did late in his life profess to being born again in Christ . Twas not well received its said . He never did receive much support fir that having been the guy who in the mid 60s lamented and/ or bragged about beatles being more than Christ with the youth youth beatle mania then in power .
Many organised record destruction parties ensued .
Probably later replaced by many participants ❓️

A legend is that his Aunt Mimi , his defacto mom after his moms death , greeted him as she expired on her deathbed .
Strawberry fields was the name of a Salvation Army she had taken him to as he was a kid .

I remember sitting in front of the TV that
Sunday night. The whole family was watching. The thing is I was only 7 at the time.. And I knew who the Beatles were.
My folks in their mid 20's. I don't think people today realize what a very Big Deal
they made in music. Just as you said.
And yes even at seven I had a crush on
    Paul. 💕💕💕💕🎶🎶🎶🎶🎸

Incredible music. My father was stationed in Germany during the Cold War. An experienced the British Invasion up close and personal. The Beatles were his favorite band to listen to. Sweet memories of my Dad I miss him a lot. Father’s days is always sad.
The saddest part of it that during those back masking hoax ministries certain family members convinced Dad to get rid of his Beatles albums. Pretty sad when I think about it. It’s funny my generation GenX also listened to our parents music as well. Very innovative music. Thanks for sharing.

Help! still has one of my favorite movie lines that I still randomly quote, just to mess with people:
Ringo: "I thought she was a sandwich, til she went spare on me hand."

The Lead Guitar part on “Ticket To Ride” is an interesting one. It’s a Rickenbacker electric 12-string, instead of the Gretsch Country Gentleman which the U.S. saw in George Harrison’s hands on The Ed Sullivan Show. To this day, that Rickenbacker model (the 360-12) is made in Santa Ana, California.

Thank you for your commenting on people comparing Taylor Swift to the Beatles – GOOD GRIEF! She doesn't offer anywhere close to all the things the Beatles have accomplished, inspired, and invented. No other band compares. No other performers compare.

Thank You for this Adam. There is one aspect of the Beatle's success that was purely circumstance and isn't meant to take it away from the Beatles but … the violent assassination of a US President live and in real time on a major TV network in 1963 had contributed to making the entrance of the Beatles a welcome relief while in a state of mourning. The US was never the same again.

Poll: What is your pick for the BEATLES Greatest Song?

Picking the greatest Beatles song is impossible for me, and people comparing Taylor Swift, is really bizarre, people who hold doctorates in music have been diagnosing Beatles music since 1964 pronouncing it genius and try to figure out how 4 young men decided to put some of the ingenious parts to their, music.

Taylor is a beautiful young lady and she's very nice, she has what today's audience wants and more of a celebrity magnetism personality, but I don't her music will be long lasting.

The BeAtles music like Bach and Beethoven will be here for centuries.

What is cool to me Adam, is you get it, your Dad would be proud because usually if you are not from the generation you relate to your own, but you get us guys born when rock was young!

Really? People actually compare Taylor Swift to the Beatles? I can only imagine a gaggle of 11-12 yr olds or that one person voting for Biden making that comparison! lol

Far stretch was first heavy metal song when Black Sabbath came out that year

    Compared to Taylor, who?

Was that the punchline? So I'm supposed to insert canned laughter at that point, huh?

The name of the airport's "Idlewild". We've never accepted the name J.F. Kennedy.

I couldn’t have cared less about either of the first two movies, they weren’t good. My mission was to see as much of the Beatles and hear their music as much as I could.

I absolutely hate the Beatles. ESPECIALLY Lennon. However, I love Rocky Raccoon.

Thank you Adam for keeping the music is our youth alive!

1965 was a great turning point year for The Beatles. It's incredible how quickly they evolved from their boy band status. Rubber Soul and Revolver are two of my favorite albums from them. They showed this band's ability to adapt to changing musical tastes. It's something I'll always admire about them.
