CEDAR RAPIDS — A new spot specializing in African and Caribbean dishes is coming soon to Cedar Rapids.

Signs recently appeared for Madam Chef’s Delicacy at 1561 First Ave. SE, a former Subway location in the Wellington Heights neighborhood that closed several months ago.

Details on when it will open and whether it will operate as a dine-in restaurant are not yet clear. A website for Madam Chef’s offers catering, private dinner and private chef options. Social media indicates that the restaurant has offered delivery through DoorDash.

An online menu offers a variety of cuisines, with a penchant for African and Caribbean flavors with classics like jerk chicken, jollof rice, goat meat, cassava, fufu and pounded yam.

Though there’s little info about the owner or the brand’s background, the brand has been active on social media with plenty of food photos over the last two years, where the owner describes herself as a “self-made chef.”
