Aussie here! Honestly I think the ONLY WAY to finish this nightmare would be a combination of these following actions.
1) America and countries bordering Venezuela should implement a FULL blockade of Venezuela.
2) Venezuela's Military should carry out a coup d'etat against Maduro
3) Venezuelan people should take up arms and carry out a revolution
4) Most of Latin-American countries should support paramilitary operations in Venezuela including selective killings.
The regime is so powerful that only a coordinated action of all of these countries can make the difference.
Do NOT forget that the Regime is controlled by the Cuban G2 which is expert in managing security challenges. Apart from that, the Regime has the support of CHINA, RUSSIA, IRAN , NORTH KOREA, CUBA, NICARAGUA, BOLIVIA, SYRIA, QATAR, TURKEY, and terrorists groups such as Hezbollah.
All of them are trying to surround America from the Caribbean. -

Good summary of the situation.
Let me start by saying that Venezuela is a wonderful country filled with beautiful people, and a few rotten apples are spoiling the entire barrel.
In my view, the “change or migration” to authoritarianism, dictatorship or whatever you want to call it, started long ago. It is the proverbial case of “the frog in the boiling pot”
The “turning poin” became obvious, for me at least, with the untimely and mysterious death of Renny Ottolina in 1978; I left to find better fortunes in 1981, yes, long before Chavez came to power. Renny was a charismatic, major political and disruptive force to the status quo, swiftly removed from the picture.
Only 5 years later (but really after 20 years of steadily increasing corruption) the economic decline began to show its ugly face “Black Friday” and it has not stopped since.
Fast forward to 1992 when Chavez attempted a coup and got his ass thrown in jail, only then pardoned 2 years later and then became president in 1998. At this point, Venezuela clearly entered a “leftist dictatorship”.
Soon thereafter, the constitution starts to be modified to cement control and all opposition is systematically removed from the picture. Not to mention that corruption was turbocharged to a whole new level.Fast forward again to 2013 with Maduro, and turbocharge everything again. This is an old playbook, “get rid of the competition and control everything”
All of this is being done in plain sight and under the cloak of “democracy” only to “legitimize” the existing power structure and make it very difficult for international forces to intervene.
Capriles, Guaidó, Machado are only some of the latest prominent opposition leaders “removed from the picture” or “neutralized” politically. The can play in the sandbox but are not allowed to win.
All the while, due to the awful conditions, millions of citizens who could mount any opposition have left the country, about 8 million or roughly 1/3 of the population. That’s a lot of votes against, also “removed from the picture”.
Something terrible HAS happened in Venezuela, but it wasn’t sudden and Maduro is only the latest piece of the puzzle.
They are playing the “long game” and by now, after decades of total control, “They are guarding all the doors”
Hope alone won’t fix this situation, Venezuela needs a “Neo” and fast. -
The CCP says they are a democracy with chinese characteristics. The left keeps doing this. They keep on redefining basic words and pretending like they’re not doing anything. What is a woman? They redefined women. What is democracy? They redefined it. What is corruption? They redefined it. What is moral? They redefined it.

They didn't have to? They already on the cusp of civil war, Maduro has been wildly unpopular for a long time now, people are literally starving in Venezuela, even the military is turning against him and that's how you get deposed in a hurry, so yes they did have to call elections to at the very least control the military.
Even if the people despise him so long as he can placate military opposition he'll be fine, the issue is really if the military believes the government is illegitimate and some officers start to believe they would be widely supported in overthrowing it. That's when it becomes dangerous for Maduro and why the (sham) elections were called -
