It's really weird how all these cult leaders are the creepiest looking men
-
Jim jones didnt convince the people to drink the poison, they were forced by guards with guns and rifles. It wasnt suicide, it was clear mass murder.
-
Honestly, I love your videos and your voice is so welcoming 😊😊
Thank you so much for doing what you do ☺️
I really look forward to the future of this channel 🙂

Oh, my word! I did not believe this would happen. I am at a loss for words – typing this teary eyed. It's been a very, very tough past few weeks, so this truly means the world to me. Thank you so so much, Erin. Have a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all!

I don't know if I would call Auschwitz a 'dark tourism location'. It serves as a memorial of all those lives lost and a reminder of human cruelty. The actual survivors and their families were the ones who pushed for it to be open to the public and the entrance has always been free. It's being funded by the Polish government and donations. I don't see anything wrong in converting sites of tragedies into a place of education and commemoration of victims, but it definetly should not come from the place of wanting to capitalize on it.

Thank you for making these videos. I have mixed feeling about it being opened to the public, especially in today climate. I dont think its a place i could ever visit.

I am very uncomfortable with dark tourism such as this. It's used as a cash cow, not a reverent exploration of history, and how not to repeat it.

Excellent episode

Also the majority of his followers didn’t off themselves…. They were either injected or physically forced to drink the flavoraid or straight up sh*t…. This video is so not it
-
Conduct disorder means that child literally harms others…. That’s not awww….

Hi Erin, I was wondering if you know something about Sadhguru or Isha foundation? I am interested in your take on them. It seems hard to find a lot of thing about it that are negative, but when I watched ' how to become a cult leader' I recognized a lot of things..Thank you so much
-
I don't think I would go there just because of the trama I was young when this happened and it was on the news everyday you could not Escape it. And if it is open where is all this money going? I hope it goes toward the healing of the families that lost loved ones due to this guy he was so psychotic
-
Amanda if you are here I would love to be able to help you unfortunately I'm on a very fixed income due to disability I raised three girls on my own and I know how hard it is congratulations on what you have done with your life and I'm pretty proud of the fact that people can do this good luck to you and I hope people can donate and I would really do that if I had the money so I'm just going to say Merry Christmas and happy New Year and I hope you guys get everything you wish for

There is a museum in GA that has a pair of his sunglasses. Also pack of the flavor aide/ cool aide they used
-
From what I understand, he also forced people at gunpoint to ingest the poison if they refused.I wish that had been mentioned in the video as well.
-
Jim Jones also targeted disenfranchised brown communities where he felt that he would be able to manipulate and gain control over.
Jim Jones purposefully marketed his message to people in the inner cities as well as to African-American people who were, and are very much considered spiritual and religious people. He used their spirituality and some of their naivety against them 😔 -
There are also many of the members who were forced to drink the Kool-Aid laced cyanide drink at gunpoint as well. It was a very tragic and unfortunate event that affected so many lives. The money that they have received from people coming to go to this site should be given to the families of the victims. 🙏🏾

Guyana needs money. Guyana was absolutely in no way responsible for Jonestown. This is the first thing most Americans think of when they hear "Guyana." This is a no-brainer, of course they should do it. And of course it's to be expensive, they're doing it because they need money, and people would be encouraged to spend some time in the country at sites other than Jonestown, it requires a stay. It should be done tactfully of course, but comparing this to Auschwitz is a difficult stretch. Millions didn't die at Jonestown. This was a site of a tragedy, there are plenty of places in America you can tour. Want to go see Ford's Theater in DC where Lincoln was shot? There are tickets. Same with MLK's shooting at the Lorraine Hotel, the Book Depository for JFK's, the Audobon Ballroom for Malcolm X, but those you can say are just single people's deaths. What about multiple people dying and suffering like Jonestown? OK, you can get tickets to see the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Memorial in New York, you can pay to take tours at Andersonville in Georgia, in California you can take tours of Manzanar, one of the Japanese Internment camps. But they're not cults? OK, go to Waco and see the Branch Davidian Cult Compound,. Connected to cults and much more brutal, go to Oklahoma to see the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. There are battlefield tours and "haunted tours" everywhere. Look, if something is too painful for the people to live there, then they often choose to knock it down and pave over it. If the people there are responsible for the horrific events that took place there, it can be disturbing. Neither applies here. Unless they start to make and sell their own powdered juice drink and really market it as Jonestown Flavoraid or something, there's really little argument to be used against them for doing this.

C'mon Erin, where's your sense of Romance? What a perfect location to knock the socks off your date. It's gonna be 2025, in the age of TikTokult we need new, desperate standards to woo each other with. Bets on some human wanting to do a gender reveal there. 🙄
Thank you for another awesome vid, and the little cat moment at the end. Jonestown is like, the cult of cults. There's something about Jim that really scares me. He KNEW his people, he knew the culture and he targeted the under privelaged and excluded groups. He was sharp… Till the drugs melted his brain.

I have seen a lot of documentaries about jonestown. I would visit there. It needs to be a museum to keep those who were murdered alive forever. Also, I have been to Aushwitz and killing fields in cambodia. I still think about the experiences to this day, therefore keep their names alive.

I’m of two minds. One the one hand, ew. Just… ew. Who’s signing up for that? It seems so exploitative. On the other hand, I feel bad for Guyana. Europeans showed up and stole their land, their people, their resources, and then made it famous as the scene of one of the darkest chapters of cult history. Do you know anything about Guyana that doesn’t relate to the Jonestown massacre? I don’t. I’m not planning a trip there any time soon. This is the only way they can think of to take in the tourism bucks, and I’m sorry, I just can’t be that mad at them about it.

🖤 I'm the grand daughter of a former people's temple member… It's SO important we remember what happened so it doesn't happen again. Thanks for sharing this story so they're not forgotten. Jim Jones was an absolutely insane man
-
You briefly referred to Jones starting to preach with the Pentecostals. It was with a particular group led by William Branham, influenced by the klan. Jones got the faith healing stick from Branham who is a cult like character himself and Branham teaching part of the story behind the mass starvation cult in Kenya last year.

16:40 come and join us, it is wonderful… Sounds like the sell used for settlers to first colonies in US.
Same dynamics, we can't build the settlement without people, but why would you go when nothing there yet. The pressures were made even worse with Jones Town as started shipping out way more people than the site couls ever handle.

I was 14 when Jonestown happened. Imagine my surprise when I learned that Jones was ordained by the denomination that I grew up in. The Assemblies of God Church.
