The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical wave near the Windward Islands that is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
The wave is forecast to cross into the western Caribbean late this week where the environment appears to be favorable for slow development on approach to the Yucatan Peninsula.
As of Tuesday morning, the area has a 20% chance of development over the next 7 days. This area is not a threat to south Florida at this time.
Hurricane season started on June 1 and ends on November 30. The peak of the season is around early September. The next name of hurricane season is Beryl.
