As a local of the island, this was the first time something like this ever happened, we are generally safe country to travel to so when this happened this put the island on a stand still, and america put alot of pressure on us to help, but we never went though this ever so we were so under equipped and had no idea what to do, and to get extra hands from the military for the search efforts took days because it took a Long time for the Netherlands to give the okay because the government does not control thrm, the Netherlands does. I was like 8 when this happened and I remember everything so clearly. The island even took a few days off work so everyone could help find her.

I’m from Mountain Brook, and went to the same High School as Natalee. We feel her loss in many places, and school trips are now no longer allowed to be international. My mother used to make small talk with Beth Holloway at the nail salon. Small towns can make loss so much harder.

When this all went down. Us Americans where encouraged to boycott Aruba. A customer was telling me of her vacation plans in Aruba. I talked her out of it by guilt tripping her about the Holloway situation.

This Joran story has been sooo fucking much in the news in Holland over the past like what 20 years? Its insane that it tookthis long to solve the case. And i believe i speak for most fellow Dutch people here, may this man Rot away in prison til his death.

To everyone outside the US, this was a HUGE story in America. I was about 6 years old when it all started and its probably my earliest memory of the news. It was crazy how much attention this got. Much like the Gabby Petito case, but without the social media element.
